"William Ruto, I Am Coming for You": Jimi Wanjigi Speaks Out After Release on Bond
"Jimi Wanjigi released on bond and vows to challenge President Ruto. Court proceedings and allegations of police misconduct follow his recent detention." "Businessman Jimi Wanjigi, released on a KSh 10 million bond, declares he is coming for President William Ruto. His court appearance on Tuesday included a call for a postponement of the plea and allegations of police misconduct."
Businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi has been released on a personal bond of KSh 10 million following his arrest and detention at Kamukunji Police Station on Monday. Wanjigi appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was instructed to surrender his passport. A ruling on whether the charges against him and a second suspect will be dismissed or proceed is scheduled for September 12.
In a video shared on social media, Wanjigi made a bold declaration, warning President William Ruto that he will not be intimidated and that he is coming for him.
Earlier on Tuesday, Wanjigi’s legal team requested a postponement of the plea. Senior Counsel Paul Muite argued that a prior court order had prohibited the police from arresting Wanjigi and required his release if he had already been detained.
The lawyers also claimed that the police acted maliciously by canceling Wanjigi’s firearm license, which had been reinstated by the High Court, in response to allegations of illegal firearm possession. Lawyer Wallis Otieno contended that the revocation of the firearm license was an attempt to charge Wanjigi unfairly and that the charges were fundamentally flawed due to police violations of court orders.
Otieno emphasized that Wanjigi had responded voluntarily to a police summons and was unlawfully detained. He also alleged that the second accused, Kibe, faced physical abuse by police, including painful treatment while in custody.
