Kenyan Content Creators Affected as Meta Limits Facebook Live Storage

Meta has introduced a major change to Facebook Live, setting a 30-day expiration date for all live-streamed videos. This policy, effective from June 25, 2025, means Kenyan businesses, influencers, and content creators will need to save their videos manually before they disappear. The move is aimed at optimizing storage, but it raises concerns for those who rely on archived content. Discover how this change will impact Facebook users in Kenya and what steps you can take to secure your videos.

Facebook Live Videos Won’t Last Forever

Meta has announced a significant change to its Facebook Live video storage policy. Effective February 19, 2025, all new live broadcast videos will be available for replay, download, or sharing for only 30 days before automatic deletion. This update marks a departure from the previous policy, where live videos were stored indefinitely.

The company cites data indicating that most live video views occur within the first few weeks of broadcasting as the rationale behind this change. To align with industry standards and optimize storage resources, Meta is implementing this 30-day retention policy.

For existing live videos older than 30 days, Meta will initiate a phased deletion process over the coming months. Users will receive notifications via email and within the app before their archived live videos are deleted. Once notified, users will have 90 days to download, transfer, or convert their content before it is permanently removed.

To assist users in preserving their content, Meta has introduced tools that allow users to save their videos externally. The company recommends downloading important videos or repurposing them as posts or reels to maintain engagement.

This change is part of Meta’s broader efforts to streamline its platforms and prioritize content that drives user interaction. However, it has raised concerns among content creators who rely on live videos for long-term engagement and monetization.
