Homa Bay Town MP George Kaluma has called for an end to male circumcision in Kenya, saying the practice is unnecessary and similar to genital mutilation.
In a statement on his official X account on March 4, 2025, Kaluma linked male circumcision to rising cases of female genital mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies, and early marriages, especially in communities that practice it. He questioned why men from these communities often prefer women from non-FGM backgrounds, calling it a contradiction.
Kaluma further claimed that male circumcision has no biological benefit. “Donkeys don’t circumcise. All animals don’t circumcise except a few human beings who have been lied to that they are grandchildren of Abraham, a man who lived in the desert without water,” he said.
His remarks have caused debate, with critics pointing to his past controversies. In August 2023, a court ordered him to pay Ksh665,500 in overdue school fees for a child he fathered in 2007 with his estranged partner. Kaluma has also supported the Family Protection Bill, which he says promotes traditional family values.
