Mombasa Cement Billionaire Hasmukh Patel Passes Away at 58

Mombasa Cement Company's founder, Hasmukh Patel, widely known as Hasu, passed away on Thursday at the age of 58. Patel, who had been experiencing stomach complications for two days, was pronounced dead upon arrival at a Mombasa hospital.

Samir Bhalo, the family’s spokesperson, confirmed the unfortunate news, adding that arrangements for his burial are currently underway.

Hasmukh Patel was a prominent and compassionate figure in the business community, known for his significant contributions to society. Through the Hasmukh Patel Foundation, he provided scholarships to many needy students across Kenya, giving them the opportunity to pursue their education. His charitable efforts extended beyond education, as he was also a staunch supporter of various initiatives, including environmental conservation.

Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir expressed his condolences, highlighting Patel’s deep community involvement and unwavering support for the less fortunate. "Patel will be remembered for his active role in societal affairs in Mombasa and his generosity towards the underprivileged," the governor remarked.

As a successful industrialist, Patel founded Mombasa Cement Limited (MCL), one of the leading cement manufacturers in East Africa, known for its popular 'Nyumba' brand. In addition to MCL, Patel held directorship positions at Corrugated Iron Sheets in Kenya and Tororo Cement in Uganda.

Patel is survived by his wife and three children, leaving behind a legacy of philanthropy and industrial achievement in Kenya and beyond.
