KDF Soldier Dies After Stoning Incident in Kasarani

A tragic series of events unfolded recently in Nairobi, leading to the deaths of several individuals under varying circumstances.

On the night of August 31, Senior Private Kelvin Ndung'u of Moi Airbase was fatally injured during an altercation outside a bar in the Mirema area of Kasarani, Nairobi. The altercation, which started inside the bar, escalated outside, where Ndung'u was struck on the head with a stone by one of his companions. This blow left him unconscious in a nearby trench, where local bodaboda riders discovered him and promptly alerted the authorities.

Ndung'u was initially taken to Jesse Kay Hospital on Lumumba Drive by the police. Upon identifying him as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) member, he was transferred to Defence Memorial Hospital for specialized treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on September 3, three days after the incident. In response, the police have launched a murder investigation, collecting evidence from the scene and interviewing witnesses, including club staff. Authorities are also reviewing security camera footage from the area to identify and apprehend the assailants. While no arrests have been made, investigators are following promising leads.

In a separate incident, Nyahururu police are probing the mysterious death of a woman around 40 years old, found in her bed without visible injuries. Her body has been transferred to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.

Additionally, at the University of Nairobi, a tragic event occurred involving a 29-year-old fifth-year medical student, Collins Kiprop Kosgei. He was discovered deceased in what authorities suspect to be a suicide. His body was found in the main hall residence, with his head covered by a nylon bag connected to a small gas cylinder around his neck. Although no suicide note was found, the police, led by Kilimani police boss Ben Kobia, have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
