Mlolongo Residents Demand Action on Abandoned Roadworks

Residents of Phase III are urging the Machakos County government to complete grading and murraming works on local feeder roads, projects that have stalled and left the community mired in mud, sewage, and disrupted water supplies.
Three weeks ago, county workers began grading the roads and laid murram on a 100-meter stretch in the middle of one major road. However, residents say the work was left unfinished, creating dangerous and impassable conditions.
“Since they dug up the road, they left potholes filled with sewage and mud,” said a resident, who noted that disconnected water pipes still lie exposed, awaiting repair. “The murramed section is closed on both ends. There’s no way in or out for vehicles.”
According to residents, after multiple complaints, county workers returned last week to level the previously laid murram. But they failed to reopen the road, leaving both ends blocked and the community effectively cut off.
The incomplete work has disrupted daily life, making it nearly impossible for vehicles, including school buses, ambulances, and delivery trucks, to pass. Areas that were once passable are now impassable mud pits, residents say.
Phase III residents are calling on the Machakos County government to urgently complete the work, reconnect water pipes, and ensure proper drainage so that normalcy can return.
