Nakuru Pastor Elias Njeru Out on Bail After Shocking Attempted Murder Allegation

Elias Mutugi Njeru, a prominent businessman and pastor based in Nakuru, Kenya, has been granted bail following his surrender to police over allegations of attempting to murder his partner and business associate, Florence Wanjiku Gichohi. The incident occurred at the couple’s shared residence, reportedly escalating from a domestic dispute that left Wanjiku with severe injuries, including the loss of several fingers as she defended herself against a stabbing attack. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Njeru appeared before the Molo Law Courts, where he denied the charges of attempted murder. Magistrate’s court set his bail at KSh 200,000, with an alternative bond of KSh 500,000. Strict conditions accompanied the bail, including a prohibition on contacting the victim or interfering with the ongoing investigation. Pretrial hearings have been scheduled for December 9, 2024.

The investigation has reportedly benefited from CCTV footage, which partially captured the altercation. This case has sparked widespread outrage, with activists and community leaders condemning the attack as part of a disturbing trend of gender-based violence in Kenya. Many are demanding swift justice and robust measures to address violence against women.

Advocacy groups have urged authorities to use this case as an opportunity to enforce harsher penalties for perpetrators of domestic violence and to strengthen protection mechanisms for survivors.
