Treasury Official Found Dead at Machakos Level 5 Hospital Linked to Ksh 286M Tender

A Kenyan family is in deep sorrow following the mysterious death of Evans Chirchir, an official from the Ministry of Treasury. His body was discovered at Machakos Level V Hospital. The family believes that his death, which occurred on Friday, August 31, might be connected to his work at the Treasury Ministry.

Felix Kaeto, the family's lawyer, expressed doubts about the circumstances surrounding Chirchir's death, suggesting that it could be related to tender issues at his workplace. "The way he was killed raises serious concerns. It’s hard to believe it’s just a coincidence and not related to his work," Kaeto said.

Kaeto, along with another lawyer, Philip Langat, had gone to court under a habeas corpus to demand that Chirchir be produced in court after he went missing. However, the family later informed them that Chirchir’s body had been found in the mortuary.

Chirchir had reportedly been receiving threats to his life, which raises suspicions that his death might be linked to a Ksh286 million tender he was working on at the ministry. He had confided in his brother about the threats and the dangers he was facing related to the tender process.

"We want the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to thoroughly investigate if Chirchir’s death was connected to the tender issues," Kaeto stated.

The family, through their lawyers, is demanding that the Inspector General of Police and the DCI speed up the investigation to uncover the truth behind Chirchir’s death. Langat emphasized, "This isn’t just any murder; it’s likely linked to the procurement processes, and the investigation needs to move quickly."

The lawyers also mentioned that friends who were supposed to meet Chirchir in Machakos had reported his disappearance after failing to locate him. They are currently gathering more information from Chirchir’s close friends to help uncover the circumstances of his death.

A postmortem is scheduled to be conducted this week to determine the cause of Chirchir’s death.
