The Rotaract Club of Nairobi West, in partnership with the Surgical Society of Kenya, has launched a five-day free treatment exercise at Mother and Child Hospital in Wote, Makueni. This initiative, supported by Makueni Governor H.E. Mutula Kilonzo, offers free medical checkups and surgeries to residents with eye problems and other diseases.

“We have received doctors who will help us with free surgeries,” Governor Kilonzo said. “There are also 4 surgeons from Tanzania and 20 more from Kenya assisting with the treatments. We are asking the people of Makueni to come forward if they have any kind of illness and get checked.”

The Governor emphasized that the goal of the exercise is to help those who might not be able to afford or access certain treatments. “I have personally witnessed cases that I never expected, especially in young children. We’ve seen infants as young as 3 and 6 months with serious health issues,” he shared.

Governor Kilonzo assured residents that the county aims to provide medical care for free during this period. So far, 46 surgeries have been successfully completed, 278 people have been attended to, and 52 are currently admitted, waiting for treatment.

In addition to the treatments, the exercise also includes registration for the Social Insurance Fund (SIF). The Governor urged residents to register, saying, “After this free exercise, people might need medical services in the future. We are also helping locals sign up for SIF to ensure they continue receiving medical care.”

Governor Kilonzo added, “We are advising those who come for screening, even if they don’t need surgery, on the next steps. Not everyone will need surgery, but we want to ensure they get the right guidance.”

The Governor and medical teams encourage anyone with medical challenges, especially those with eye problems or other illnesses, to visit Mother and Child Hospital during this free treatment period. It's a great opportunity for Makueni residents to receive the care they need.
