Governor Wavinya Ndeti Denies Money Laundering Allegations, Calls Claims Politically Motivated

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has strongly denied allegations circulating online that she was detained in a foreign country in connection with money laundering. The claims, which suggest Ndeti was caught attempting to smuggle Ksh679 million into the United Kingdom, have been dismissed by the governor as baseless and politically motivated.

In a statement, Governor Ndeti called the accusations a smear campaign orchestrated by her political opponents to undermine the progress her administration has made in Machakos County. "This online smear campaign is designed and sponsored by my political detractors to dampen the impact of the transformative work we are doing in Machakos," she said.

Ndeti described the allegations as absurd, questioning the credibility of the accusations. "It is demeaning and insulting to the intelligence of the people of Machakos and Kenya to suggest that I would smuggle hundreds of millions of shillings on my person to the UK and be detained," she remarked.

The governor reassured her supporters about her family's safety, confirming that neither she nor her family had been detained or involved in any illegal activities. "My family and I are safe and in good standing both at home and abroad," she asserted.

Ndeti also condemned the defamation and misuse of electronic media by those behind the false accusations, warning that the misinformation not only damages her reputation but also endangers her family’s safety. "If anything happens to any member of my family or myself, the authors of this narrative will be held personally responsible," she cautioned.

Despite the controversy, Governor Ndeti reiterated her administration's commitment to delivering on transformative projects in Machakos County. She highlighted key achievements, including the completion of nearly 1,000 projects since August 2022 and record-breaking revenue collection of Ksh1.7 billion in the 2023/2024 fiscal year—the highest in the county’s history.
