KRA Nabs Bhang & Ethanol worth Sh520,000 at Malaba border

Customs officials at the Malaba One Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Busia County have intercepted a drug shipment and suspected smuggled ethanol in two separate operations.

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers seized 520 rolls of bhang, valued at approximately Sh520,000, and 308 jerricans, each holding 20 liters of suspected ethanol.

The first operation took place when officers, on routine patrol, discovered a salon car parked in Koteko, about 10 kilometers from the KRA office. As they approached, the vehicle sped off, resulting in a minor collision with a KRA pickup truck. The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. The case is currently under investigation by the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Malaba.

“KRA remains dedicated to combating illegal trade and ensuring public safety,” the agency said in a statement.
