**ODM Party Leadership Transition: Raila Odinga Hands Over to Anyang' Nyong'o**

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has entrusted the party’s leadership to long-time ally and Kisumu governor, Anyang' Nyong'o. The veteran politician has asked the governor to oversee party matters in his absence as he focuses on other commitments. According to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, "Due to the demanding campaign schedule of our Party Leader, he has designated H.E. Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, the Governor of Kisumu, to chair any necessary meetings of the Central Committee during his absence."

Sifuna emphasized that the regular meetings of the Central Committee help address internal party matters as well as issues affecting Kenyans as a whole.

Sifuna reassured members that the party's affairs will continue to be handled transparently and called on them to maintain discipline. He reminded members that all sanctioned party meetings would be organized through the National Secretariat, urging them to ignore meetings not authorized by the Secretariat.

"As a party grounded in multi-party democracy and public participation, we ensure our processes are open, and we regularly update the public on our decisions and outcomes," Sifuna added.

Raila Odinga announced he is stepping back from local politics to focus on his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. He described this as a transitional phase, shifting from active involvement in Kenyan politics to a focus on continental leadership, with the AUC election set for February 2025. While Raila will be less engaged in Kenyan politics, he remains committed to the continental campaign.
