A young woman was allegedly assaulted and thrown out of a moving Bolt taxi in a shocking incident during a journey between Ruiru and Mirema. The attack has sparked public outrage, raising concerns about passenger safety in ride-hailing services. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, is currently receiving treatment at Ruiru Level 4 Hospital.
The woman reported the incident to Ruiru Police Station, where an investigation is underway.
According to her account, the Bolt app displayed a fare of Ksh. 770 for the trip from Ruiru to Mirema. Upon reaching her destination, she handed the driver, identified as Sylvester Mutua, Ksh. 1,000, expecting Ksh. 230 in change. However, the driver allegedly demanded Ksh. 900 instead.
“Today morning, I requested a Bolt from Ruiru to Mirema. The total amount was supposed to be Ksh. 770 on my end. I gave the guy 1k, and he insisted his money was Ksh. 900. He threw me out of a moving vehicle along Kahawa Sukari,” she recounted.
The driver, operating a Nissan Dayz with license plate KDK 715K, reportedly assaulted the woman before ejecting her from the moving vehicle.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for swift justice and improved safety measures from ride-hailing platforms. Critics have also pointed to Bolt’s previous safety-related controversies and are demanding greater accountability from the company.
As of now, Bolt has not released an official statement. Authorities at the Ruiru Police Station have assured the public that they are investigating the case.
