Kenyan GEN Z's Plan Nationwide Protests Over Rising Abductions

Human rights activists in Kenya have announced plans to hold nationwide protests on December 30, 2024, to demand government action against the recent abductions of critics. These activists are calling for accountability and immediate measures to ensure the safety of all citizens.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has expressed concerns over the increasing number of government critics who have reportedly been abducted. As of December 27, 2024, there have been 82 reported abductions since anti-government protests began in June. The KNCHR warns that Kenya may be reverting to the "dark days" when the abduction and torture of opposition figures were common.

In response to these concerns, President William Ruto has pledged to end the abductions and has urged parents to guide their children towards discipline. However, critics argue that the government's response has been inadequate, leading to the planned protests.

The upcoming demonstrations are expected to take place across all 47 counties in Kenya, with organizers emphasizing the need for justice and accountability. They accuse law enforcement agencies of conducting illegal detentions and failing to investigate the disappearances, thereby exacerbating public outrage.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the government will address the activists' demands and whether the protests will lead to concrete actions to safeguard citizens' rights and freedoms.
