Operations at Eldoret International Airport have come to a standstill due to a workers' strike, leaving around 100 passengers, mainly bound for Nairobi, stranded. Passengers who had checked in were asked to wait in the parking area as the airport workers refused to serve them. Over 300 employees at the airport joined the strike in solidarity with their colleagues at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, protesting the controversial Adani deal.
Frustrated by the disruption, some passengers expressed their disappointment, with a few choosing to retrieve their belongings and return to Eldoret town to make the journey to Nairobi by road. Senior airport managers were present but declined to comment on the strike's impact.
Among the affected travelers was Bishop Charles Mwanda, who was on his way to Mombasa. He described the strike as a national embarrassment and urged the government to listen to the concerns of Kenyans, including the workers, instead of imposing decisions. "Our country is being disrupted over an issue that could have been resolved through proper dialogue. Let's avoid causing such harm to our nation," he said.
