Shallow Grave with the Body of a Woman Discovered in Trans Nzoia County as Homicide Cases Rise in Kenya
Police in Trans Nzoia County exhumed the body of Alice Chemutai, a Kitale resident, from a shallow grave in Kaliwa village. The body was discovered behind a mud house, leading to the arrest of three suspects connected to her death and secret burial. This incident adds to a series of recent tragic events in Kenya, including the deadly fire at Hillside School in Nyeri County and the discovery of mutilated bodies in Nairobi's Mukuru Kwa Njenga, raising concerns about the rising number of violent crimes in the country.
On Tuesday, police in Trans Nzoia made a grim discovery, exhuming the body of a woman from a shallow grave in Kaliwa village, Waitaluk ward. The woman, identified as Alice Chemutai, a resident of Kitale town, had been missing for about two weeks. Her body, wrapped in a blanket, was found buried behind a mud house.

This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of another devastating event—the fire that engulfed Hillside School in Endarasha, Nyeri County, on September 7th, 2024. The fire claimed the lives of 17 boys, with 70 others still missing, leaving the nation in shock and mourning.
These incidents are part of a disturbing trend of violent deaths that have shaken the country in recent months. In June 2024, the discovery of tens of mutilated bodies in a quarry in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi County, horrified the nation. The suspected serial killer responsible for these deaths managed to escape police custody in August and remains at large.
As these tragic stories unfold, one cannot help but ask: is Kenya becoming a hub for horrific crimes? Who is responsible for these senseless killings, and what can be done to protect the lives of innocent Kenyans? The nation is gripped by fear and uncertainty as these questions remain unanswered.
