IEBC Selection Panel Sworn In After Public Outcry for Reform
After mounting pressure from Kenyans, the IEBC selection panel has finally been sworn in, marking a significant step in restoring public trust in the electoral process. The nine-member panel now faces the critical task of appointing new commissioners within 90 days.

Today, the IEBC selection panel was officially sworn in at the Supreme Court in Nairobi. This is a big deal because the panel will be responsible for picking new commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Chief Justice Martha Koome, who oversaw the ceremony, didn’t hold back in reminding the panel of the importance of their role. She urged them to stay independent and ensure they only select people with unquestionable integrity.
The panel now has 90 days to recruit and recommend commissioners who meet the highest standards of integrity, competence, and independence.
The Chief Justice called on the panel to resist external pressures and put public interest above all else. “Your role is to safeguard democracy,” she said. It’s a big responsibility, but it’s one that must be handled with integrity and impartiality.
As the panel begins its work, all eyes are on them to deliver. Kenyans want to see fairness, transparency, and competence in the recruitment process. The IEBC must emerge stronger, led by individuals who are beyond reproach and committed to the values of democracy.
