The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has issued a call urging Kenyans to advocate for the swift reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
NCCK Secretary General Canon Chris Kinyanjui emphasized the need for a fully operational IEBC to address gaps in Kenya's electoral process and restore public confidence. This move is aimed at ensuring effective oversight and accountability, particularly in recalling Members of Parliament who have allegedly acted against the public's will, such as supporting the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
Additionally, NCCK has stressed the importance of involving the public in any significant electoral or constitutional reforms, such as those proposed in the NADCO report. The Council has called on Parliament to ensure that such processes are participatory and transparent, reflecting the will of the Kenyan people
The council has also criticized political interference in churches and called for guidelines to prevent politicians from using religious platforms for their campaigns.
