Former Kenyan Presidential Aspirant Jimi Wanjigi was arrested on Monday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). In a public statement, the businessman condemned his arrest as illegal, accusing law enforcement agencies of violating court orders by detaining him.

Wanjigi had presented himself at the DCI headquarters as ordered, following his alleged involvement in the Nane Nane protests. "The DCI have illegally arrested me despite numerous court orders barring the same arrest," Wanjigi declared, emphasizing the breach of legal protocols by the authorities.

In a widely circulated video, Wanjigi can be seen confronting police officers at the DCI headquarters. The video captures a tense exchange where Wanjigi resisted boarding a police car, vehemently stating, "Do not order me, do not touch me!" before eventually complying with the officers' demands.

This arrest follows an earlier incident on August 8, where Wanjigi clashed with law enforcement over accusations of financing the Nane Nane protests. The outspoken businessman had also been vocal in criticizing President William Ruto's administration for taking unsustainable loans without parliamentary approval, a stance that has placed him at odds with the government.

After a previous raid on his home, Wanjigi denounced the operation as illegal and an attempt to intimidate him. He expressed concern for the undue trauma caused to his family by the aggressive police actions and called on authorities to summon him properly instead of raiding his residence.

As a long-time ally of Raila Odinga, Wanjigi has vowed to continue speaking out against what he calls the government's reckless loan-taking spree. He asserts that these actions are unconstitutional and endanger Kenya’s financial future.
